SYNOPSIS

Jorge Monforte owns the Ouro Verde empire (Brazil), one of the world leaders in the agricultural sector. He is a billionaire who’s just acquired a significant stake in the Brandão Ferreira da Fonseca Bank (BBFF), a family owned firm headed over by the powerful Portuguese banker Miguel Ferreira da Fonseca, thereby obtaining a seat on the institution’s exclusive Board of Directors. The news was not well taken by the family of bankers, who are suspicious of the foreigner’s real intentions.

No one is any the wiser that Jorge Monforte is Zé Maria Magalhães’s new alias, who had been taken for dead 15 years before, and who is now back to avenge his family’s death. His father, João Magalhães, was the financial director at BBFF when a story broke out implicating the bank in a complicated fraud and embezzlement scandal. João was the scapegoat and was charged with the crime. He is investigated and his name dragged through the mud. In order to protect himself, João threatens Miguel that he will blow the whistle on the bank’s dirty scams if they do not get him out of the situation and Miguel quickly realizes that João is a ticking time-bomb. He hires a killer to go over to the house and simulate suicide. Unfortunately, the family, which had gone out, returns to the house and walks in on the killer. They wind up dead, except for Zé Maria, who miraculously survives.

Zé Maria wakes up from his coma six months later. Yet he is confused as to what really happened that fateful evening. Miguel is apprehensive once he learns the boy is alive – he is scared he may remember something that will compromise him and pretends to be concerned with him. Once Zé Maria decides to resume his life, he seeks out Miguel to help him land a job and crosses his family’s killer, whom he doesn’t recognize at first. On that same day, he bumps into Bia Ferreira da Fonseca, but doesn’t know that she is Miguel’s daughter. There is love at first sight, but Zé Maria has other things to worry about, since his memory returns and he joins the pieces, realising that Miguel ordered the heinous crime that killed his entire family. He quickly understands that his life is in danger and decides to flee, but he is almost killed by the killer again and by chance is saved by Bia. They end up spending a few days together and fall madly in love with one another. However, he is truly forced to run away and travels to Rio de Janeiro. The separation hits them hard. Once in Brazil, Zé Maria is mugged and loses Bia’s phone number, losing touch with her. In an act of bravery in Rio de Janeiro he saves Januário Cavalcantti from danger, who is an important colonel with huge properties in the Amazonian region. This chance encounter changes his life because a few months later this man takes him in and helps him, offering him a job on his plantation. Their relationship blossoms and when the colonel dies, Zé Maria, who has now taken on the identity of Jorge Monforte, inherits his fortune. A few years later, now more powerful than ever due to the growth in the cattle and soy business, and with a position of clout within BBFF, Jorge decides it’s time to return home and settle the score with the past. His family must be avenged. Jorge wants to clear his father’s name and seek justice for his whole family, who was killed. He wants Miguel Ferreira da Fonseca to be bankrupt, with his name dragged through the mud. The die are cast when Jorge is called to one of his plantations as there is an environmental protest underway against the Ouro Verde group. Jorge identifies Bia among the protesters. She is now an environmental activist. He hadn’t seen her in 15 years and thought the matter was closed but his heart thumps when he sees her and realizes the passion he felt is far from over. How will be deal with the fact that she is the daughter of the man he’s about to take down? This is something she may never forgive him for because the truth is that if Jorge destroys the Ferreira da Fonseca family, he is somehow doing to Bia the same thing the banker did to Jorge in the past.
